"Angkor Wat – The world’s largest temple complex, a timeless wonder."
ABOUT ANGKOR WAT
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the largest temple complex in the world, covering an area of 160 hectares with over a thousand buildings. At its peak around the year 1200, it was home to about one million people—an astonishing number compared to the 100,000 inhabitants of Paris at that time. The main temple, Angkor Wat, features towers rising over 65 meters high.
Particularly fascinating are the intricate relief carvings, which serve not only as decorations but also as narratives of Hindu epics such as the Ramayana. The Bayon temple stands out with its enormous Buddha faces, finely crafted in stone. Another remarkable site is Ta Prohm, where massive tree roots have intertwined with the ancient walls, creating a surreal and breathtaking sight.
I visited this awe-inspiring place in 2009 and 2012.
